Welcome to Vernon Hills Cane Corso. My Wife and I have been devoted to this breed since 2003 when we obtained our first Corso. I set out on a search for a dog in early 2003 knowing that I wanted a big athletic dog as we are active in our lifestyles. I searched different breeds for months before I stumbled upon a picture on the internet of a Corso. The picture did not tell what breed it was so I searched for big mean looking dog pictures. Finally I found the name of the breed and the researched the origins and characteristics. When I read how the breed was a guardian type dog that was extremely loyal to their family and was extremely intelligent, I knew that I had found what I was searching for.
So the search for a breeder was on. We were able to find three amazing dogs that we loved and cared for over the course of the next 11 years. We were living in the Phoenix area at the time and after loosing our last Corso we decided to wait until we moved to Northern Arizona to start over with our next Corso. In 2017 we made the move, built our house and began what is now Vernon Hills.
We are located in Vernon Arizona at an elevation of 7000'. We have a 7 acre fenced property with several different fenced areas within to accommodate the dogs. The dogs spend allot of time in the house, however they have kennels with large runs for when they are outside.
We strive to produce well balanced dogs with even temperaments. We feel that it is your right as a owner to be able to take your Corso with you in any environment and be confident in doing so. This can only be achieved by starting with a confident well rounded puppy that has been exposed at a very young age to a variety of sounds, textures, other animals and situations. We achieve this with our puppy yard that has obstacle courses with different ground coverings, hanging tools and toys that make different noises and climbing obstacals to build confidence.
In addition to the puppy yard we use the Volhard's Puppy Aptitude Test to help with determining the correct family for the puppy based on the what the family is looking for in a dog. This test will usually reinforce what we are seeing when the pups are interacting in the yard.
